Establishing
Leadership
In the consulting
session, we will
spend as much time
as it takes with you
and your dog,
coaching you on
effective handling
techniques. We start with an analysis of the
problem(s), explain the behavioral basis for the dog’s
behavior, and describe the solution(s). Next, we’ll
demonstrate how to do your role in the rehabilitation
process, and then hand the leash to you.
From here on, you will be coached on your body
language, command and praise tones, and correction
levels that are appropriate to your dog, and the timing
of your praise.
The session is only over when you tell us that you
completely understand what to do, and have
demonstrated to us that you are doing the training
correctly.
Next, we’ll help you create a maintainable training
schedule, talk about duration of each event, and plan
to expand the sphere in which your dog will learn the
new behavior(s).
We’ll provide you with our telephone and email
contacts. for further coaching should you need it.
A One-on-One
CONSULTING SESSION
Training & Consultations By A Canadian
National Master Trainer
•
Barry has worked with dogs for 44 years, but time
spent on the job is not always the most important
criterion. He’s actually accomplished things with his
own dogs and with those who train with him.
•
Lifetime membership earned with the Canadian
Kennel Club as a German Shepherd Dog breeder of
Sunshadows Registered GSDs.
•
Founding member of the German Shepherd
Schutzhund Club of Canada and President for 3
terms since 1979.
•
Competitor in CKC Obedience trials and in the sport
of Schutzhund, now called IPG. Achieved multiple
obedience and Schutzhund titles on many of his
dogs, and helped many others do the same.
•
Represented Canada in international competition in
Schutzhund.
•
National Teaching Helper. This means that he can
coach people who will be doing the protection work
in IGP trials…you know, “The Bad Guys” who are
going to be bitten.
•
Multiple times used as an expert witness on dog
matters in Saskatchewan Queen’s Bench Court and
in local, lesser court cases.
•
Rehabilitated hundreds of badly behaved dogs, each
in one short session, by training their owners to
manage and handle them correctly. Humans are not
born knowing how to deal with dogs, though many
incorrectly believe they are!
•
He is the president of his local training club, Central
Plains Schutzhund Club, and helps his members
with Tracking, Obedience and Protection exercises
leading to titles.
•
He co-owns Buena Vista Kennels and Buena Vista
Training Systems - a highly successful obedience
training school in Saskatoon. Students who attend
do extremely well in competition.
•
Bachelor of Education UBC, Professional ‘A’
Certificate - Saskatchewan
•
Certification in Applied Positive Psychology

Author of ‘Balanced Training; Obedience for Dogs
and Their Owners”
Barry cares deeply about the welfare of dogs and
wants people to be happy with their canines, living a
life that benefits and fulfills both species.
Typical Testimonial:
Hi Barry,
To
say
I
was
skeptical
that
these
dogs
could
be
‘fixed’
in
just
an
hour
consult
session
is
an
understatement.
At
first
when
I
saw
how
the
dogs
responded
to
you
and
I
thought
maybe
you
had
some
sort
of
magical
dog
whisperer
type
vibe
that
would
wear
off
once
you
left.
Then
I
thought,
we’ll
give
this
a
day
or
two
and
the
dogs
will
stop
responding
to
the
prong
collar
and
I’ll
be
back
at
square
one.
I
am
pleased
to
report
that
after
a
month
of
walking
almost
every
single
day,
it’s
not
gotten worse but has improved each and every time.
Thanks so much! Megan
